Dymatize ISO100 Hydrolyzed V.S. BASIX Total Gainer

There are various brands of whey protein powder products, all of which have more or less the same benefits. That being said, there are certain products of this kind that will be healthier and more effective than others for certain people trying to achieve certain goals.

There are three (3) main types of whey protein; whey protein concentrate, whey protein isolate, and whey protein hydrolysate. Each of these primary types of whey protein has different amounts of protein per gram of powder which results in having different benefits for different people.

Dymatize ISO100 Hydrolyzed is a pretty popular brand of protein powder. It is described as “super fast-digesting and absorbing hydrolyzed 100% whey protein isolate.” On the other hand, BASIX Total Gainer is a “high calorie, high protein weight gainer.” Based on the very brief descriptions of these products, their different effects can already be seen.

One thing to consider is the calorie content of these products. Since Dymatize ISO100 Hydrolyzed only has around 110 calories per serving, it is more suitable for those who are on a caloric deficit whereas BASIX Total Gainer, with around 1128 calories per serving, is better for gaining weight, as the name suggests. Being a hydrolyzed protein isolate powder, it makes sense for Dymatize ISO100 Hydrolyzed to have such a low calorie content since it is composed of 90-95% protein. Meanwhile,  BASIX Total Gainer is a protein concentrate powder which typically contains 60-80% protein, with the rest being fine fats and carbohydrates which are essential for those who are on a caloric surplus. However, this means that BASIX Total Gainer may be a terrible choice for those who are lactose intolerant. Although these products are different in weight matters, they still do a very good job at helping an individual gain muscle mass and recover from workouts.

Both protein powders from both brands contain certain allergens. For Dymatize ISO100 Hydrolyzed, it contains milk and soy. On the contrary, BASIX Total Gainer contains milk (more than Dymatize ISO100 Hydrolyzed) and is manufactured on equipment which also produces eggs, soya, and products derived from crustaceans.

As someone who has tasted the chocolate flavor and the cookies and cream flavor of the Dymatize and BASIX brands respectively, the BASIX brand is more favorable. It actually tastes like chocolate. This makes it significantly easier to consume on a daily basis. The Dymatize cookies and cream flavor, however, is too sweet and unpleasant to consume regularly.

Since I am someone who is on a caloric surplus and is trying to gain weight, the protein powder brand of BASIX Total Gainer is instantly more appealing as a customer. The taste is just a bonus. With its high calorie content as well as essential fats and carbohydrates, you just can’t go wrong with it! Unless you are lactose intolerant in which case protein isolate such as Dymatize ISO100 Hydrolyzed is the better choice with less milk. Both products from both brands are healthy but I prefer BASIX Total Gainer for people like me, working out and trying to gain weight.
